As food insecurity deepens and economic pressures continue to rise, thousands of families in Douma struggle daily to secure their most basic needs. In response, HAND, in partnership with Muslim Hands, implemented a food basket distribution project aimed at providing essential support and relief to vulnerable households in Rural Damascus. The project demonstrates a shared commitment to protecting dignity, addressing urgent needs, and ensuring access to food for communities facing mounting challenges.

Years of economic hardship, rising living costs, and limited income opportunities have weakened household food security in the area. For many families, accessing sufficient and nutritious food has become a daily struggle, forcing difficult choices and increasing vulnerability. Through the distribution of food baskets, this project provided timely, life-sustaining support to help families meet their immediate needs, ease daily pressures, and maintain a sense of stability during uncertain times.

The project focused on families facing the greatest challenges, including households headed by women, families with members with disabilities, and those experiencing extreme vulnerability. By delivering essential food supplies directly to these households, the project helped ease daily burdens and strengthen household resilience.

A total of 300 food baskets were distributed, each containing two cartons of essential food items, directly supporting 300 families and 1,663 individuals. The project successfully reached all targeted households, improving short-term food security, reducing financial strain, and fostering trust and cohesion within the community through respectful engagement between humanitarian teams and local residents.

While the project provided critical short-term relief, ongoing support remains essential to help families navigate continued economic and social challenges. HAND, in partnership with Muslim Hands, remains committed to implementing principled, inclusive, and impactful humanitarian projects—supporting vulnerable communities, safeguarding dignity, and strengthening resilience across Syria.
