As part of an ongoing emergency response to the rising water levels of the Euphrates River, an initial relief convoy has arrived in Deir ez-Zor to support families affected across Deir ez-Zor and Ar-Raqqa governorates. The intervention is being implemented in coordination with the Syrian Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management and relevant local stakeholders to address urgent humanitarian needs resulting from the flooding situation.

The convoy delivered a package of multi-sectoral assistance, including food and health supplies to support immediate household needs, as well as children’s gifts and recreational items aimed at providing psychosocial support to affected children.

In addition, river boats were provided to facilitate access to hard-to-reach communities and enable the continued delivery of humanitarian assistance, particularly in the Al-Jazira area of rural Deir ez-Zor. These areas have experienced significant access constraints following the rising water levels of the Euphrates River and the submergence of key earth crossings, which has disrupted movement between riverbanks.

This intervention forms part of a coordinated emergency response campaign led by the Abdul Qader Sankari and Sons Humanitarian Foundation through its implementing partners, HAND Organization and Al Rowad Foundation for Cooperation and Development, with the objective of strengthening humanitarian access and ensuring timely support to affected communities in both governorates.

The Executive Director of HAND Organization, Saadeddin Muvakit, stated that the campaign is being implemented jointly by the Abdul Qader Sankari Foundation, HAND Organization, and Al Rowad Foundation.

He confirmed that six river boats are being provided to the Syrian Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, three of which have already been delivered, while the remaining boats will be handed over in the next phase of the response.

He further noted that the boats are essential to restoring mobility across the river and ensuring the continuity of aid delivery in light of the disruption caused by the submergence of the earthen bridge.

He added that the response package also includes food and health assistance, alongside children’s gifts and toys, with a particular focus on supporting communities in the Al-Jazira area of rural Deir ez-Zor.

This response underscores the importance of coordinated humanitarian action, rapid emergency deployment, and strengthened access solutions to support affected populations and enhance resilience in the face of sudden-onset flooding events.
