For Alaa, a mother of three, the loss of her husband 14 years ago marked the beginning of a journey defined by resilience, determination, and responsibility. As the sole provider for her family, she faced significant challenges, yet remained committed to creating opportunities for herself and her children.
Motivated by a longstanding ambition, Alaa joined the tailoring training programme under the Nomu Al Ghurair – Mawared Project. Her goal is to establish a small tailoring business that can provide a sustainable source of income while allowing her to put her skills and creativity into practice. By pursuing vocational training, she is also demonstrating to her children that learning and personal development can continue at any stage of life.
Implemented under the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation’s Learn to Earn model and in coordination with the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Industry, the Nomu Al Ghurair – Mawared Project aims to enhance young people’s access to market-relevant skills and strengthen pathways to employment through demand-driven vocational training.
The project’s partnership with Al Tattari Group, a leading ready-made garments manufacturer, further strengthens the quality and relevance of the tailoring programme. Through exposure to industry practices and workplace-oriented learning opportunities, trainees gain practical experience that helps align their skills with the needs of the garment manufacturing sector.
Today, Alaa is taking meaningful steps toward achieving a goal she has pursued for years—transforming her aspirations into opportunities for herself, her family, and her future.
