Protection
More than 500,000 Syrian refugee children live in Lebanon. They bear the brunt of the crisis. Thirty per cent of school-age children never went to school, primary school enrolment fell by 25 per cent in 2022, and the upward trend in child labor among Syrian children continued, with at least 27,825 Syrian refugee children entering the labor market. One in five girls between the ages of 15 and 19 is married.
We believe that "children are the future", so we seek to create a bright future where children enjoy all their rights, where children are protected and we seek to break down barriers to the education of thousands of refugee children.

Protection Program Achievements

HAND's Protection Program focuses on youth and children's issues,
prioritizing the preservation of children's rights and providing them with
the services they need to meet their basic needs – including education,
protection, shelter, food security, and health care.
Protection projects provide a safe environment for children at the health
and psychological levels, in addition to organizing various activities within
safe spaces in order to develop their skills, develop their abilities and
potential, and support them psychologically.
During the past four years, our existing program in Lebanon has
protected 76,901 children including children with special needs, children
separated from their families, girls at risk of early marriage, and
protecting young people from employment. We have also helped
children's families improve their housing environment to meet mental
and physical health and safety standards.

Life Skills and MHPSS
To promote the psychosocial well-being of students, we offer mental health and psychological support sessions for all children within our educational centers and schools. Through these sessions, we identify individual psychological cases and provide focused psychosocial support, ensuring continuous follow-up.
Parental engagement is also a priority, with regular meetings organized for parents and partners who play a crucial role in this framework.
Through a variety of events and recreational activities, we cultivate a safe and supportive environment, fostering feelings of security, acceptance, and support among children. These activities offer them a space for free expression and positive interaction with peers and friends.
Additionally, we strive to enhance the integration and adaptation of children into society, nurturing their sense of belonging and promoting coexistence with others.
Our Life Skills project aims to bolster essential skills and societal values in children, facilitating their transition into adolescence. This project focuses on three key dimensions:
- Personal development: fostering self-awareness, self-knowledge, self-control, self-acceptance, self-respect, and confidence.
- Interpersonal relationships: nurturing communication skills, respect for diversity, empathy, acceptance, cooperation, and love.
- Learning skills: cultivating critical thinking, learning strategies, and an understanding of how the mind works.

Psychological Care for Orphans
Through the Life Skills project, we seek to promote the most important societal skills and values in
children that help them acquire the life skills necessary to transition to adulthood.
We care for orphaned children who have lost a parent as a result of the ongoing war in Syria or due
to a health condition. The care program is based on securing the rights of these children by including
them in an integrated care program that provides them with all their basic needs, namely:
- Education: Where the children we care for and their siblings receive education within Generation
For Peace schools, and benefit from all our educational projects that help them raise and follow
up their educational attainment -

this category of children, to enhance their abilities, develop their talents, and support them
psychologically. -
