The Impact of Educational
Deprivation on Children in Lebanon
Consequences of the Crisis
-
The educational deprivation of Syrian and Lebanese children in Lebanon is a multifaceted issue
stemming from the economic and social crisis afflicting the country. Insufficient economic support
for public education, and the difficult socio-economic conditions faced by families have resulted
in a diminished access to education. -
The shortage of spots in public educational institutions, and the lack affordability to private
education have further exacerbated the problem, leading to increased school dropout rates.
Addressing this issue by providing support and prioritizing children education requires strenuous
efforts from the local authorities, international organizations, and the global community, but
safeguards a brighter future for Syrian and Lebanese children affected by the crisis.
Education Program Approach
HAND is dedicated to expanding learning opportunities for children that have been deprived of their
right to education. Our programs offer tailored solutions for students that dropped out of school, or
lack the necessary certifications to complete their higher education and pursue university studies.
We place a significant focus on inclusivity, particularly of girls, residing in camps and at a higher risk
of early marriage. We also prioritize students that have experienced psychological challenges as a
result of war, and strive to create them a supportive environment within the community and school
settings.
Moreover, provide training programs in leadership and life skills, to empower these children, boost
their self-confidence, and provide psychological and behavioral support. We also collaborate closely
with parents and community partners to raise awareness about the importance of education.

Digital Schools (2022-2024)
Formal Education and Learning
In partnership with The Digital School, one of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Global
Initiatives (MBRGI), Digital Schools project provides 30,000 new learning opportunities over a span
of three years to Syrian refugee children in Lebanon that have been deprived of education. Our
approach extends beyond conventional classroom learning, as we prioritize equipping students with
essential digital self-learning skills.
Operating across 6 educational schools situated in various regions of Lebanon, our project ensures that
these vulnerable children have access to high-quality education.
Through the establishment of 14 digital learning spaces within the schools, students are trained to
effectively engage with the Lebanese curriculum's digital content available on the Digital School
platform.
Our project places a strong emphasis on addressing educational gaps among students. We offer a
diverse range of educational programs tailored to meet their specific needs in education, and bring
them up to the appropriate educational level for their age group.
Moreover, our commitment extends to supporting and motivating students throughout their
educational journey. We provide the essential learning resources and supplies such as books,
stationery, books, transportation facilities and other necessary materials to ensure that students
have all the tools that facilitate their learning process and success.
In addition, all registered students receive a certificate of recognition from the Lebanese Ministry
of Education upon the completion of each academic year, in recognition of their achievements.
This certification holds a significant value, particularly for the displaced Syrian children in Lebanon,
as it opens doors to future academic opportunities.
Through the Digital Schools project, we are dedicated to empowering these children with education,
skills, and resources that will positively impact their lives and enable them to build a better future.

Enhancing Education through the
Digital Learning
Online & Self-learning
HAND has created digital content for the Lebanese educational curriculum major subjects (Mathematics,
Arabic, English, Physics, Chemistry, and Science) covering grades 1 till 12. This content is provided
through the ‘Digital School’ platform, and is regularly developed and updated. Each lesson includes the
lesson plan, explanatory notes, video demonstrations, discussions, and tests.
We have equipped all classrooms with projectors to integrate this technology into education and enable
teachers to use the Digital School platform to deliver the lecture in class.
Students are also asked to review their lessons through the Digital School Platform in the Digital Learning
Spaces provided at the schools, during dedicated times. Each lesson includes a list of evaluative questions
at the end that students are required to answer, as a means of assessment and evaluation of students’
knowledge by the end of each lesson.
Teachers provide guidance to students within the Digital Learning Spaces, and help enhance their skills
in using electronic devices for self-learning. In addition, all our teachers undergo professional training to
enhance their digital teaching skills and Capacity Building and receive a certification as Digital Teachers
from the University of Arizona.
Being a digital content simplifies the study material and makes it more appealing and amusing to
children, which increases their motivation to learn.
